How to Add Value at Work #01: Increase Revenue

This month we are doing an extra quick tips series on how to add value at work. You are not limited by your job description. By “adding value” you can help your company meet their goals as well as also advancing your own career. Adding value to your role, your team, your boss and your company should form part of your goals/objectives to help you meet your career goals. It can improve your reputation, boost your chances of promotion, and from a personal perspective increase your job satisfaction.

Through this series, we will be doing a round-up of different ways that you can add value and how your career journal can help you plan and take action.

Increase Revenue for your Company

Regardless of whether or not you are in sales, there are things that you can do to help “sell” the company and increase their revenue. That is why we are kicking of this series by talking about money and increasing revenue.

First and foremost a business wants to make money. This is a key priority for any business and therefore adding value by helping the company increase its revenue is a no-brainer. Of course, this is easier said than done if you are not in a customer-facing or sales role.

If you are in a sales role then this will be a key way that you demonstrate and add value. Keep a detailed record of your direct sales and well as any cross-referrals. Know your figures!

How are you Selling? Do a bit of self-analysis and seek feedback. You can use your journal to record what worked well, what didn’t work well. It can be used to plan out your income-generating strategy or cross-referral strategy.

If you are not in a sales or direct customer-facing role you can still promote your company. Do some work on raising your brand’s profile/visibility and generate leads by promoting your company at events and on social media, by building relationships, but talking about what you do, what your company does and their products or services. It can be hard to measure your impact through indirect methods – however, you should still keep a record of what you are doing, what is working and any referrals/ figures that you can point to by way of example.
