K is for… Knowledge

K is for… Knowledge

It is likely that a number of your criterion for your appraisal and any promotion will relate to knowledge and experience. Therefore you need to have a clear understanding of how you have improved your knowledge throughout the year and the evidence that supports that and how you have demonstrated experience/meet any specific requirements.

You should also be able to demonstrate that you have also thought about ways to improve and build your knowledge and experience going forward. Depending on the promotion you may also need to be able to show a niche experience or in-dept knowledge or choose to specialise.

Make sure you have a plan of what you have done and what you are going to do if you get the promotion.

Classic examples of ways to keep a record of your knowledge includes:

  • a training record of the training you attended
  • a training record of the training you delivered
  • a record of knowledge management activities you contributed to
  • a record of articles you have written to demonstrate knowledge and expertise;
  • a record of any presentations you have given.
