Hi! I was stopping by on the #AtoZChallenge Road Trip, and I love your theme (though I have to admit, I was thinking real estate appraisals when I first saw your title. LOL, your theme was much better!)
I couldn’t comment on that post, so I thought I’d hop over here. And so, to make sure my comment isn’t totally irrelevant here’s a time I stepped out of my comfort zone:
I’m a picture book writer, but I have ideas for middle grade sometimes. Once I queried on proposal a middle grade. I was so excited about it, did some research, and even got an agent interested in the project. But I was totally out of my comfort zone (and out of my league). I have a solid knowledge of the picture book market, but middle grade is a whole ‘nether ballgame – one I wasn’t ready for. So I withdrew my manuscript and stepped back into my picture book comfort zone.
Now, you might think I’d regret stepping out of my comfort zone. Nope, I learned a lot about my strengths, weaknesses, limits, and also that I’m actually not a bad writer. In fact, I might do something crazy like that again. Maybe even with the same manuscript. But I’m going to polish it first before sending it out. And I’m just not to that point in my career yet.
