M is for… Mindfulness

Mindfulness can be an important tool in looking after your mental health and wellbeing. Mindfulness can help make it easier to cope with difficult thoughts and manage stress effectively.

Any mindfulness during the day will help. You might snatch a mindful moment, take some time to work on your breathing or simply use mindfulness or meditation to help you relax.

I recently started using the Box Breathing Method to work on my breathing. Box breathing is a very simple stress management exercise which can be used to give yourself a break. Box breathing is exceedingly simple to practice. Simply relax your body and do the following:

  • Let out all of the air in your lungs to the count of four.
  • Keep your lungs empty for a count of four.
  • Inhale for a count of four.
  • Keep your lungs full for a count of four.
