J is for… Journal

In a busy world, where there never seems to be enough hours in the day the luxury of making journal writing part of my routine means that I actually take time out to reflect on what is happening and focus on myself. I actually have some quality time with myself (and my hot drink of choice) and as I journal using paper and pen – time away from the glare of the computer screen.

Journaling alone (even if you are not specifically writing about your health and wellbeing) can have a powerful effect on your mental health and wellbeing.

I believe that this downtime and reflection helps me to be happier, more grateful for what I have, more focussed and in tune with my goals and helps me to manage my time and priorities. It is important to also use some of this journaling time to focus on your mental health and wellbeing. Journaling can help you track how you are feeling. It can help your reflect on what you have been doing and practice gratitude and positive thinking.

Here are some well-being prompts that you might want to start using as regular prompts in your journal:

  • How am I feeling today?
  • What went well today?
  • What am I grateful for?
